- Timing
There will be two sections to the project.
Part 1: narrative animation, approx. 45-55 seconds
Part 2: credits (text) approx. 5-7 seconds.
Exact timing will be based on the music you are assigned.
You need to leave the last 5-7 seconds of the music for the credits.
Use this as a guide.
Final timing should be based on these suggestions along with analysis of music.
- protagonist introduced: seconds 1-3
- problem introduced: seconds: 3-13
- struggle(at least 1 or 2 failed attempts) to solve problem: seconds 13-43
- resolution and ending: seconds 43-53
- text credits with portrait. seconds 50-60.
- Story
Based on the music you have been assigned:
Students will develop a very short story line with protagonist, problem, at least two to three attempts to solve problem, solution. This scene ends with a blank stage. - Characters
Characters can be of any form. Abstract, anthropomorphic or realistic. Given our time: keep it simple. Characters must also be unique. Stay away from traditional gaming imagery and make the character original. The protagonist should follow the 12th principal of Disney animation and have Appeal:
A live performer has charisma. An animated character has appeal. Appealing animation does not mean just being cute and cuddly. All characters have to have appeal whether they are heroic, villainous, comic or cute. Appeal, as you will use it, includes an easy to read design, clear drawing, and personality development that will capture and involve the audience's interest. Stay away from stereotypes. - squash and stretch, overlapping action
when desing props and characters that will interact, within the story, determine what type of material each object is made of. how does it react when contact is made. try to build interesting object interactions such as squash and stretch. - Credits
Credits will consist of both self portrait sequence integrated with text (you name)
using a digital camera, you will take about 60-90 images of your self in and performing and action that can be integrated with the creation of your text. piece ends with blank screen. - Project specs:
flash files should be 720 by 540, 30 fps
final cut: DV NTSC , 30 fps
